Michael Carter, or 'MC' as he's known, is all about marketing and innovation for accounting firms. He founded Practice Paradox, a consulting and training organisation that teaches accounting firms sales and marketing skills--after he identified this skill gap in the profession. These are skills not typically taught in accounting or commerce degrees, yet they are skills that can bridge the gap between what a firm is technically capable of providing clients (that is, more proactive planning-related services), and what many firms typically do provide clients (that is, mainly retrospective compliance-related services). Prior to Practice Paradox, MC was Co-Founder of Business Fitness, where as part of industry benchmarking study and best practice guide, "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly of the Accounting Profession", he interviewed the leaders of high performing firms and wrote case studies about what they do differently to most firms. MC is a patent holder, he has an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (though he says not to hold the MBA against him!) and has worked 21 years in professional service and technology-related firms.
