MYOB Essentials Cashbook is being discontinued

From 28 February 2026, MYOB Essentials Cashbook ledgers will no longer be available. You won’t be able to open or view any Cashbook ledgers after that date, including paid and old read-only ledgers. Bank feeds will stop on 15 December 2025.

MYOB Practice Ledger files will continue to be available. Practice ledgers (L) are similar to Cashbook ledgers (CB), but they don't have bank feeds.

Key things to know

  • Bank feeds will stop working on 15 December 2025

  • Access to Cashbook ends on 28 February 2026

  • Finalise all prior periods, and export all reports (including read-only files) before access ends

  • Back up everything you need before linking to Connected Ledger. Any unsaved reports, workpapers or account balances will be permanently lost

  • Only move after you’ve closed all prior financial years. You must do this before Cashbook is discontinued.

  • After you link or set up Connected Ledger, you’ll no longer have access to your historical Cashbook data

Move to MYOB Business Connected Ledger from Essentials Cashbook

To keep using your Cashbook ledgers, you’ll need to move them to the MYOB Business Connected Ledger.

You’ll start by preparing your Cashbook data for the move and downloading your records to keep a copy. This is important as you won't be able to access historical records. Next, you’ll submit a request for MYOB to set up a new Connected Ledger and move your bank feed. Once that’s done, you’ll import your data, check that everything matches and set up your preferences and tools.

We’ll walk you through each step below.

Get your Cashbook data ready and download reports

Before you move, you need to make sure the data is ready to export and you have copies of your historical data for your records. You won't be able to access Cashbook, so you'll need these for future reference.

1. Finalise periods and export reports (including any read-only files)

Start by finalising and exporting historical reports from your Cashbook ledgers. This includes any file you need to review data, including paid and older read-only files

  • Complete all prior year financial reports and workpapers that are configured to Cashbook by finalising all work in Client Accounting and exporting the reports as PDFs.

  • Once the client file is configured to Connected Ledger, all new data will flow through from Connected Ledger and not Cashbook. Unsaved reports will not be generated using Cashbook data.

2. Export Cashbook data

Export the chart of accounts and the trial balances from Cashbook for the prior financial years.

  1. Open the ledger and go to Settings> Accounts list.

  2. Select the green PDF button to export the list in PDF format.

See Cashbook help for information how to export reports and ledger entries.

Set up your Connected Ledger

Before you can set up Connected Ledger, you'll need to submit a request to MYOB to create a ledger and move your bank feed across. Allow three business days to create the ledger file. We'll let you know when is ready.

You'll then configure your file and import your data.

1. Request a Connected Ledger file

Submit a request to MYOB to create a new MYOB Business Connected ledger and move your bank feed across. Backdate the financial year start as required.

We will move any current financial year bank feed transaction data into Connected Ledger. These transactions are uncoded, ready for you to code.
Note: This excludes BNZ bank feeds (NZ only)

Allow three business days.

2. Set up the Chart of Accounts

After your Connected Ledger file is ready, use the Chart of Accounts PDF you exported from Cashbook to help set up your accounts. You can set up the chart of accounts:

You'll need to manually recreate any rules and templates if you want to use them in Connected Ledger.

3. Configure the Connected Ledger in AE/AO

  • Configure Connected Ledger in Client Accounting (AE/AO).

  • Configuring the file in Client Accounting will link it to MYOB Practice Compliance. The file will become accessible for BAS data import, if applicable.

  • Enter prior period trial balances in Connected Ledger. This ensures comparatives in the Connected Ledger match those saved from Cashbook as PDFs. However, only the current and previous financial years are needed for standard reporting.

  • Without backdating the Connected Ledger file and entering prior period trial balances, you'll lose comparative financial reporting. The incomplete setup of comparative periods and trial balances in Connected Ledger can disrupt historical continuity and affect reporting quality.

  • Use the move workpaper feature to reallocate workpapers to ensure correct alignment with the new chart.

4. Set up user access management

User access management is different in Cashbook and Connected Ledger. Connected Ledger is user-specific. You'll need to update access to avoid access issues. After setting up the file, invite users to the new file.

5. Update asset control and group accounts

Ensure asset tabs and groupings are properly configured in Client Accounting.

6. Configure partnerships and trusts

Partnerships and trusts have specific equity and liability accounts that you'll need to set up and allocate in Connected Ledger and Client Accounting to ensure correct reporting.

In the first year after moving, schedule extra time for configuration and data validation. In following years, your workflows will be better integrated and more efficient.

Check everything is there and get started

It's time to check that everything is correct and ready to go. Run the main financial reports in Connected Ledger and compare them with the reports you downloaded from Cashbook. You'll find all the financial reports you’ll need in the Business reports section in Connected Ledger.

This is your chance to catch any errors, missing transactions or mismatched figures before you start.
