MYOB has offset 100% of its Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions annually since 2019 and cut emissions intensity by 22% between 2023 and 2024 while continuing to grow, according to the company’s latest sustainability reporting.
Building on those results, the business software provider has launched Think Purple, Act Green, a new sustainability program designed to accelerate climate action across its operations and support small and medium-sized businesses in reducing their environmental impact.
The initiative brings together MYOB’s Climate Active certifications, emissions-reduction strategy and employee-led environmental programs under a single framework that will guide the company’s sustainability priorities through 2026 and beyond.
MYOB has been Climate Active Certified for both its organisation and its services since 2023. Through carbon offsetting, it is currently carbon neutral across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, and is committed to maintaining this by continuing to measure, reduce, and offset its emissions over time.
The program also supports MYOB’s next phase of climate commitments, including enhancing climate disclosures in line with Australia’s emerging Climate Reporting Standards and progressing toward alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by 2027.
This includes reducing Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030 and 60% by 2035, and, in line with SBTi, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
MYOB said the Think Purple, Act Green framework is intended to embed sustainability across the business, from the way its digital services are designed and hosted, to how its workplaces operate and how employees can get involved in climate action.
The program focuses on four key areas: supporting customers to reduce their emissions through climate-certified digital services and transparent reporting; improving the sustainability of MYOB workplaces by reducing energy use, waste and operational emissions; engaging employees and communities through campaigns and partnerships; and strengthening governance through measurement, disclosure and external certification.
Employee engagement forms a central pillar of the initiative. Employees across Australia and New Zealand receive two days of paid community leave each year where they can support charities or environmental projects of their choosing. Alongside this, internal campaigns encouraging employees to measure and reduce their personal carbon footprints.
MYOB has also launched several employee-led sustainability initiatives, including Parking for Trees, which turns their Auckland parking bays into a ballot system that funds native tree-planting projects, and Trees @ 2026, a multi-year environmental restoration program across Australia and New Zealand.
Alongside its internal commitments, MYOB said the program is also designed to support customers - particularly SMEs - as they navigate their own sustainability journeys. Many of the company’s digital services are already Climate Active certified and carbon neutral, helping customers reduce their Scope 3 emissions while improving operational efficiency through cloud-based tools.
Graeme Scannell, General Manager; Real Estate & Workplace at MYOB, said the program reflects the company’s focus on turning sustainability commitments into practical action.
“For more than three decades, MYOB has supported businesses across Australia and New Zealand, and sustainability is increasingly central to how those businesses operate and grow,” Scannell said.
“With Think Purple, Act Green, we’re bringing together our Climate Active certifications, emissions targets and employee initiatives into one clear framework.
“It’s about pairing ambition with measurable action, reducing our environmental footprint while helping our customers make more sustainable choices.”
