MYOB Changecast: Managing the rapidly evolving nature of work

How do you react in the face of change? In this series of podcasts on change management, accounting and bookkeeping industry experts weigh in on how to tackle the challenges you face today.

Even before the onset of COVID-19, the accounting and bookkeeping professions were already feeling the pressures of industry-wide change. Now, faced with large scale uncertainty, there has never been a better time for key decision makers in this pivotal sector of the economy to discuss a path forward.

MYOB Changecast is a new initiative that looks to create open and honest conversation on topics of change and change management, for the collective good of accountants and bookkeepers and, as a result, their clients.

One big question. One panel of experts. No script. It’s a podcast for, and by, people passionate about the accounting and bookkeeping industries in Australia and New Zealand.

These dynamic sessions are being produced in collaboration with Somersault Consulting, experts in change management and the team behind the successful ‘Leadership of Fools’ podcast. They offer a platform for people working in, or closely with the industry, to engage on some of the biggest topics it faces today and to create some optimism around topics causing discomfort.

In the first episode, our host, Colin Beattie from The Leadership of Fools, is joined by Susanna Ritchie of Workplace Wizards, Caren Hendrie from The Hendrie Group and Sam Burmeister of Tall Books to discuss the hidden costs of discounting during a pandemic.

“Do you do pro bono work?” Colin asked in the introduction. “Do you offer significant price reductions during a time like this?”

If so, this first episode of Changecast can help you make sure you’re not selling your business short.

The panel’s experiences shed valuable insight on the sensitive balancing act that many people working on the economic frontline of COVID-19 have been facing – trying to support clients while managing to maintain sufficient revenue, as well as their staff’s wellbeing.

And episode one is really just the tip of the iceberg.

Other topics covered by Changecast so far

The transition into retirement — Following the conversation on retirement and succession planning in episode 2, Colin is joined by New Zealand practitioner Cyril Childs to discuss the realities of retirement.

Retirement and succession planning — Colin is joined by Business Coach to small and solo practice owners and founder of The Balanced Firm, Amanda Gascoigne and business broker Zoran Sarabaca from Xcllusive Business Sales to talk through the often emotional journey of transitioning out of a business you’ve built.

Life after COVID-19 — ‘New normal’ may be the buzzphrase of 2020, but what is it? When is it? And what is it going to mean to accountants and bookkeepers? Our host is joined by facilitator and podcaster Steph Clarke, ABN Director Peter Thorp and MYOB’s own GM Customer Success, Natalie Feehan to tackle those questions and more.

Coping with stress — 2020 has left us no stranger to stress. Living on the economic front line of the COVID-19 crisis, accountants and bookkeepers have, more than ever, had to learn to cope with their own stress while helping clients deal with theirs. Colin is joined by Amanda Linton, CEO of the ICB, Damien Gooden, CEO of HR Central and Michael Hines, Psychologist from Smiling Mind to tackle one of, if not the most important topics of the year.

And with many more panels along these lines planned for release in the weeks and months to come, there’ll be plenty for accountants and bookkeepers to return for.

Being an advisor to businesses today means keeping an eye on all the above, and plenty more besides. But that doesn’t mean you’re in it alone. Subscribe to MYOB Changecast on iTunes, Spotify or the preferred podcast platform of your choice.
