Content, coffee and connection at ABE Melbourne

MYOB was delighted to be the major sponsor of the Accounting Business Expo, which took place earlier this week in Melbourne at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The expo was abuzz with around 3000 attendees, many of whom stopped by our stand for coffee, connection and, of course, MYOB merch!

The MYOB team was out in force and absolutely loved the opportunity to engage with customers, make new connections, and share learnings.

“Our stand was a hive of activity, which was great to see,” said Jody Sitters, MYOB Community Relations Manager for Accountants.

“For us, events like this allow us to connect with our accountant and bookkeeper customers, share our expertise, and support the industry more broadly.”

In addition to having a large trade stand at the Accounting Business Expo, MYOB delivered a program of content over the two days at the MYOB Theatre.

MYOB executive speakers

CEO Paul Robson delivered a keynote address on how MYOB is a business management platform for accountants, bookkeepers and their clients.

He explained how the MYOB business management can help businesses and practices grow, scale, and look to the future with confidence.

Our General Manager for small and medium-sized businesses, Emma Fawcett also participated in a fireside chat with The Hon. Jeffrey Kennett AC on leadership and making tough decisions. Emma spoke from her own experience, but also to the challenges facing business owners across the country.

Emma talked about the recent MYOB Business Monitor survey results of 1000 small and medium-sized businesses, which revealed that for more than half of respondents the cost of doing business is more of an issue than it was 12 months ago.

“Business owners are having to make tough decisions — like increasing prices, cutting margins, or not taking an income themselves — just to stay afloat,” she said.

Emma also observed that business owners are resilient and resourceful and are increasingly understanding the value of software in helping them be more productive and efficient.

MYOB’s program of content

MYOB also had a dedicated theatre where we presented content on both days.

Our product managers dived deeper into MYOB Business — our SaaS business management platform for small and medium-sized businesses — and MYOB Practice Management, a key solution in our business management platform for accounting practices.

We also provided product updates for our BAS and Tax workflows and got stuck into some hot topics in the industry. We covered AI advances in the accounting space, what cybersecurity you can control, and specific industry challenges such as cashflow and staffing shortage, and much more.

MYOB Community Relations Manager for Partners Leanne Berry said, “We had some great conversations about the industry and how software can help accountants and bookkeepers navigate our current and future business challenges.

“With 10 conference themes, there was content and exhibitors for everyone attending the ABE. It was a great two days and I hope everyone got a lot of value out of the event.”
