Want to master social media for your business in just seven days?

Did you know that Aussies and Kiwis rank among the highest users of social media in the world?  Over two thirds of the population in our countries use at least one social network, with 50% alone being on Facebook. Recent studies have shown that even though 63% of social media users say that they use the popular sites to research companies, products and reviews, it’s estimated that only 14 percent of small businesses maintain a social presence. That’s a lot of missed opportunities.

The recent special online edition of the MYOB Business Monitor report showed that Australian and New Zealand small business owners are behind the eight ball when it comes to promoting and selling online, with a massive 57 percent without a website.  Of these, 45 percent didn’t intend on creating one in the next 12 months.

The reluctance of small business owners to embrace online opportunities, in particular social media, has been on the MYOB radar for a while now, and we’re keen to help educate and facilitate. As is Linda Coles.  A social media specialist, she’s works hard to help businesses make the most of online tools to grow their customers and networks.

She’s recently launched her newest book ‘Learn Marketing with Social Media in 7 Days’, a brilliant resource for any business owner looking to start posting, tweeting and connecting in the social realm.

This easy to read book (less than 200 pages, I read it with time to spare on the flight home to Melbourne from Auckland!), covers off the basics of social media – and how to use it effectively – in seven quick and effective steps.  Based on her experience and expertise, Linda runs through a step-by-step navigation guide for the Big Four – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube.   And if you turn to page 51, you’ll find the story of how MYOB found our social voice, and some top tips from our New Zealand General Manager, Julian Smith.

What sets this book aside from the rest is its simplistic ‘I could do that’ attitude.  Linda shows you how to maintain your sites in just 30 minutes each day – perfect for busy business owners that don’t have hours to spend.  Her strategies are high impact and low cost, and she runs through some really simple ways to measure your efforts.  There are plenty of real world examples, and the take away notes and actions are highlighted – making it super easy to plan your marketing efforts.  And rather than section via chapters, Linda lays out this book in ‘days’, so you can easily achieve social media success in just one week!
