Episode 5: how one accounting practice got savvier with its services
It’s a familiar story… how does a business owner create a more holistic service for their customer? Do they extend the existing business offering (and possibly lose focus on what made the company successful), or do they start another business?
Ryan Miller of accounting firm Steven J Miller & Co chose the latter and hasn’t looked back since.
Ryan was keen to provide services over and above the typical accountant practice remit – he wanted to help small businesses on a day-to-day basis; not just once a month, a quarter, or a year. With his new business Keeping Company, Ryan and his team now offers secretarial, bookkeeping, and virtual CFO services and more, while keeping the traditional accounting services separate with the Steven J Miller & Co brand.
In today’s episode, Ryan discusses his process to set up Keeping Company, his marketing strategy, the clients he’s attracted, and what the future holds. It’s a terrific insight into how accounting practices are taking the next step in offering services that cloud accounting have made possible. There’s also plenty of handy tips for creating an online presence through social media that Ryan is undertaking to promote Keeping Company. He’s got a particularly clever solution for leveraging the knowledge within his team to produce interesting and shareable content.
